SMALL GEAR AND PINION CUTTING MACHINE
This home constructed gear and pinion cutter machine has been made from a 6 mm Wolf Jahn D bed lathe. The blank gear to be cut is mounted directly on the count plate, then centered up. A suitable cutter mounted on an arbor is held between the headstock and tailstock runner. The number of divisions is then chosen on the count plate ( counts are 60, 64, 75, 78, 80, and 84. so a wide selection can be sub divided )Depth of cut is controlled by a vertically mounted micrometer which brings the blank up to the cutter. The whole unit is then moved across the cutter by a crosslide mounted at 90 degrees to the micrometer. The constructor of this unusual pinion and gear cutter put a great deal of thought into this small but very effective machine.
