ANTIQUE SWISS WHEEL AND PINION CUTTING ENGINEp1760511This 19th century ( about 1850 – 1853 ) cutting engine has the ability to cut pinions up to 2″ long as well as wheels up to 2 1/2″ in diameter. The cutting spindle will need a small sleeve take standard 7mm Thornton cutters. The spindle can be angled as can the vertical column. Drive would be by external hand throw but a motor can easily be fitted. the overall size is 13″ high 16″ long and 10″ wide and weighs 7 Kilos. It has 28 counts on the detent plate from 11- 365. The centre spindle which fits into a taper is removable, the taper is very near to a morse taper spec and could be reamed out to I Morse so other tooling could be made to hold wheels and longer pinions. The vertical cutting slide will need a return spring fitted and a couple of screws will need to be fitted ( we will do this before sale ) but otherwise a usable and collectable machine.
