HOME CONSTRUCTED WHEEL CUTTING ENGINE
Based on the chronos design this one has been made with thicker plates on the frame. The 4 plates with this machine give the following wheel counts. Plate 1:- 24, 34, 41, 47, 54, 61. Plate 2:- 25, 37, 42, 49, 57, 62. Plate 3:- 28, 38, 43, 51, 58, 63. Plate 4:- 30, 39, 46, 53, 59, 66. These can of course be sub divided to give a much larger range if you wish. Chronos plates could also be used with this machine. The cutter spindle is held between two ball races and the cutter is held in the middle of the spindle and is sized for 7mm bore cutters ( Thorntons). The cutter frame can moved horoizontaly in 5 different positions and 4 positions in the vertical plane and with 2″of travel on the cutting slide. The machine will cut a wheel up to 5″ in diameter. I am afraid that there is no motor with this as the one that was on it would have been a hazard to use but the adjustable motor bracket could take other units. The foot print of this wheel cutting engine is 12″ X 18″ with an overall height of 20″the base is made of industrial 20 ply. This will need a little work to bring it use with wheel holders being made ( it comes with one) but overall will prove usefull in a clock repaires workshop. Buyer collects or arranges collection.
