JACOBS GEAR HOBBING MACHINE
A very well made example of this gear hobbing machine. Tom Jacobs was the designer of this home constructed machine back in 1976 and an article and instructions appeared in the Model Engineer Magazine, college engineering supplies produced a set of castings which was were this one originated from. This one comes with 43 gears and 12 on the machine which are as follows:- 127, 100, 90, 80, 75, 72 x 2, 65×3, 63, 60×3, 57, 55, 51, 50×2, 47, 46, 45, 40, 35×2, 34, 33, 30×3, 28×2, 27×2 , 25×3, 24×2, 21×2, 20×2. Gears on the machine:- 70, 38, 65, 24, 20, 50, 140, 38, 70, 78, 24, 38. Has three Hobbs 1 :- 24DP 20PA, 20 DP 14 1/2 PA Has one other hobb but indistinct makings. Fitted with a single phase 240 volt motor and twisted drive belt we feel the motor would be better mounted with belt inline, apparently the previous owner was limited with space hence the current configuration.
