HOME CONSTRUCTED WHEEL AND PINION CUTTING ENGINE
A superbly constructed wheel cutting engine that was exhibited at the Diamond Jubilee Model Engineering Exhibition held at Alexander Palace. The constructor was a keen horologist and made this one from drawings with a few additions. Mounted on a three draw cabinet which contains all the accessories, controls and mains lead and spare belting. The 4 Count plates are made from an aluminum alloy and countain over 51 seperate counts with the low counts from 3 – 15. The 8 pairs of collets are for holding pinions when the gallows is set up and has 2 spare pairs and a centering pin as well as suport jacks. Wheels are held on spindels with hexagonal form and are screwed into the same location as the collets. There are 6 imperisl sizes from 1/8″ – 3/8″ and 6 metric sizes from 3mm – 8mm. There are four cutters that came with the machine :- .75 8 teeth .7 wheel .6 wheel .75 wheel maximum size of wheel that can be cut is 71/4″ dia. The overall size of this Machine is 24″ long by 12″ wide and 9″ high Total height including the cutting slide lever is 19″high.
